Summer Learning Resources
Summer is a time for exploring, playing outside, reading, and hanging out with friends and family. As parents, we want to be sure our children don't experience the "summer slide". We have collected a number of resources that you can use to help your child to apply what they learned over the school year in engaging ways over the summer.
As you plan your child's summer activities, think of how you can provide opportunities for her to read every day. Make time to read aloud to him, choosing books that he may not be able to read himself. Having a conversation with a child is a chance to weave in new words to add to her working vocabulary. You can also find ways to practice math out in the wild. There are lots of opportunities to have your child apply what they have learned in math during the year to real world tasks. All children are natural scientists. Encourage them to wonder and ask questions. Let them talk through their thinking about a solution to a problem. Keep a nature journal or a hiking log. We are fortunate to live in a community where we have ready access to a nature center, hiking trails and a beach.
