Questions on Assessments:

  • Abbreviations you need to know:
    • Glossary of PARCC Terminology  http://parcconline.org/sites/parcc/files/PARCCGlossary07-01-13.pdf 
    • EBSR = evidence based selected response = 2 part multiple choice question that allows students to not only answer - but then select from a part B to show why they chose the answer in part A. 
    • TECR = technology enhanced constructed response= the item on the test uses some kind of tech to help with the answer - like drag and drop, and interactive graph etc.
    • PCR= prose constructed response= opportunities for students to write an essay - this only occurs on the English Language Arts/Literacy Performance based Assessment
    • EOY [EOC]= end of year= one of the two components that make up the summative assessments.  There are 2 parts to the math EOY, 2 parts to the ELA EOY, 1 part to the science EOY and 1 part to the social studies EOY.
    • PBA=performance based assessment= one of the two components that make up the summative assessments. There are 2 parts to the math PBA, 3 parts to the ELA PBA, 1 part to the science PBA and 1 part to the social studies PBA.
    • MYA= mid year assessment. This is FORMATIVE, practice PBA that is NOT required.  May or may not be available for the 2014-2015 school year.

  • Char's guiding questions for selection of apps:
    • Does the app utilize the camera or microphone functions of the iPad? Does it let you use your own pictures/video?
    • Does the app have ability to export the product?
    • Does the parent/teacher have the ability to adjust the settings for the student?
    • Does the app need additional packs that are only available for purchase through the iPad, not from the iTunes account?
    • Does the app have positive customer reviews related to technical performance?
    • Can the app be used in a variety of ways beyond the basic purpose of the app to help students? ( an example of this is the Show Me Interactive Whiteboard App)
    • Can more than one person create a profile on the app?
    • Does the app have a built- in set of directions or help?
    • If it is a free app, is it complete or just the “lite” version?
